A3. The Buddha teaches us, to our great astonishment at first, that there is not one continuous self but a succession of ever changing realities, resulting from precise conditions, which we take for the self.  There is in fact no world but that which appears at a precise moment through a precise sense-door which is distinct from other doors. Seeing is different from hearing, etc.  But taken together, it is the wide world with the self in it.
